A total of 169 charges were laid yesterday during a joint enforcement initiative by RCMP Traffic Services East, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, and the Provincial Highway Enforcement Division in Mount Pearl.
A checkpoint was conducted throughout the day focused on the enforcement of the Highway Traffic Act. Officers laid charges for cargo which was not properly secured, vehicles carrying cargo over required weight restrictions, and violations involving lack of registration and insurance, seatbelt use, vehicle modifications and other violations. Personal and commercial vehicles were inspected and some found to be unfit for the road and were removed from the roadway.
Police in this province are committed to improving public safety on our roadways and will continue to address violations which compromise public safety.
